2 Spooky Spots In Camden

Be brave and try visiting these two places after dark. Maybe you’ll see something. But until you check into your luxury vacation rental with us, learn a little more about Camden and its fascinating history and urban legends.

Maiden Cliff

The story about the Maiden Cliff is shrouded in mystery and tragedy. The story goes on about a woman who fell from a cliff. It’s said that it was a windy day, and a gust of wind blew her hat off her head. When she tried to grab it, she stumbled off the cliff.

There was no evidence that she died on impact or if she was taken to a hospital. A cross and plaque are at the bottom of the cliff. The true story involves a 12-year-old girl who fell over the cliff and later passed away in the night. It is believed she met her ultimate demise due to internal injuries. Hikers visit the cliff every year to honor this local legend and visit the cross and plaque.

Goose River Bridge

If you are brave enough, venture out after dark and try to drink a pint with “The Pitcher” on the Goose River Bridge. The legend surrounding the Goose River Bridge goes back to the Revolutionary War. The story says William Richardson walked on the bridge after celebrating America’s victory. He bought pitchers of ale and passed out drinks to anyone willing to celebrate with him.

Later that night, he either fell over the side of the bridge or was killed by a British sympathizer on his way home. Today, the ghost of Richardson supposedly haunts the bridge, offering people passing by a drink. They call him “The Pitcher” now because he is seen holding a pitcher of ale.
